My oldest son just left for boot camp on June 20, 2012.  I just got one 5 seconds phone call to let me know he arrived in SC safe & he'll write to me.  I havent heard from him since then.  His birthday is this 4th of July & I wanna send him a card but dont have the address yet.  I miss h so much.  And its even harder when his little brother cries for him every night.  How long does it take when he call me?  I wanna hear on how he's doing, how hes adjusting over there, are they treating him good?  ,

Maam,

I currently in the Army as a Major.  I went to Basic training in 1992 so my info may be a little outdated but some things have to be the same.  He's pretty busy right now with his training.  He should be allowed a phone call soon if things are still the same.   As for his address, did he tell you what unit he was in or send you any letters that had his unit on it?  It would look something like  B Co/2-69 IN or some other numbers that probably made no sense.  If you have that info it will be easier to find him.  Here is a link to the Fort Jackson website that has lots of pictures.  If you know which unit he's in I can tell you how to find his unit and possibly see pictures of him training.  The Company Commander's do a good job of trying to keep those sites updated in spite of their busy schedules.  Please ask me any question you have and I'll try to answer them.  I by no means officially speak for the Army but want to give you any answers I can.  I would rather tell you if I don't know something than give you bad information.  I can definitely answer questions about acronyms and our unique language.  If you haven't found out, we have our own language consisting of acronyms that sound like we are from Mars.  Each branch of the service is like that and you son will probably start sounding martian the next time you talk to him.
