National Association of Military Moms and Spouses

Hi! I'm a Filipina and living in the Philippines. My son was born in the US  and he left the Philippines a year ago.He decided to enlist with the US Air force and had an initial meeting with his recruiter Jan.2011.He was in DEP since July 27,2011..Last week my son informed me that he got a job offer as Aircraft Armament Systems Apprentice and his ship out date is on Jan.3,2012. He is also on the quick ship program. As of this time, he is preparing for basic and reports to his recruiter on a weekly basis..I do a lot of research via the net to understand the entire process.I'm proud that he qualified for the Air Force yet getting angst and mixed emotions. And it will be 4-5 months more in waiting for him before BMT.But I read a lot of posts saying that it's worth the wait. I felt sad that I wasn't able to witness his initial oath of enlistment and he did it all by himself. And feeling sadder everyday thinking that he won't get as much mail/letters from us when he goes to basic ( since mail from the US to the Phil.takes some time).I just felt relieve when I saw this site.

Hello Lenie! Welcome to NAMMAS! I am not a military mom, I am a spouse, but I can imagine the apprehension of not being able to communicate to your loved one feels about the same.  There is a group on NAMMAS called Proud Air Force Moms that I think would be a perfect support system for you during this difficult time of transition.  Here is the link to their page:  http://www.nammas.org/group/airforcemoms  There you can post AF specific questions and get support from those who know best...other AF moms!  Best of luck to you and your son! He'll do great!
Welcome to NAMMAS and make sure to join the Air Force Moms group here. There are lots of moms with Airmen in various stages of their careers from DEP like your son to several years of service. I currently have an Airman son that just celebrated his second anniversary and is in Germany. I also have two daughters, one older and one younger than my son and both are considering AF. My youngest has already talked to the recruiter and will probably enter DEP in November. The other is a Senior in college and is going to talk to the recruiter about the Air Force Academy. So like you, I will be going through DEP again and I couldn't do it without the support of my wingsisters. Air Force Moms (and other Military Moms)  are very supportive of each other and we would love to have you join us. <3

@ Lori Thueme: Thanks for the warm welcome.I do appreciate it. I know that  for the next few months I'll be feeling all sorts of emotion. I will be needing much support from other air force moms  and  I'm hoping I can give support to others as well. God bless.

@Teresa Warner:  Thank you very much Teresa!
