My son leaves for BMT at Lackland on July 16th for a ship date of July 17th. He graduates Friday, September 14th. I am hoping to connect with other moms who are brand new to this and ideally meet moms whose child may be with mine. He will go on to INDOC training for ParaRescue after BMT.

My son left yesterday and his graduation will be a week apart. Chase graduates on September 7th. He arrived at Lackland ok and we got the address call last night. When your son arrives and you get his address, let's compare Flights and see if they are in the same flight. It has been hard but he sounded strong on the phone last night. That was encouraging.
Also, what we did is go on You Tube and search Air Force BMT and look at the videos. They have a lot of videos that will let you know what will happen when he first gets there, when he has lunch, getting his locker and bunk, etc. It was good for Chase and us to see that so he was a little familiar.

What flight is he in? My son is in 323 TRS FLT 575.
Permalink Reply by Angela Williams on July 17, 2012 at 1:43pm Hi Jeanie,
Thanks so much for reaching out. Slade just finished at MEPS and said he is waiting on a bus to take him to the plane. He has no idea if he is getting on a military or civilian plane nor what time he leaves Atlanta or arrives at Lackland. UGH! I have so many questions and he has no answers and so I just stopped asking so I wouldn't frustrate him and started talking about positive things. I don't know where we go from here but as soon as I get the address, I will let you know. I am looking forward to us being able to stay in touch.

Permalink Reply by Angela Williams on July 18, 2012 at 8:06am So Upset this morning. My son called at 2:53 am. He was talking so fast and even though I jumped out of bed and had paper and a pen right there in my hand, he rambled off something and just hung up. I guess he was giving his address but I assumed I was going to speak with him after he said "whatever that was, he said" and he was gone. So now, I don't have his address, have no clue what his next steps are and no idea when we will hear from him again so I can get his address.

I am so sorry that happened. I know the emotions you are feeling. I am there with you! Go to this website. It is invaluable. http://www.basictraining.af.mil/index.asp
This will give you an insight into what your son is doing. You will receive a post card with his address. They are required to send it. Chase left last Wed. and we received the post card Monday. This is zero week for him. If he called at 2:00am, he had to be up at 4:45 so he didn't get much sleep. Zero week is the administrative week. He will get his medical and dental exams (more thorough that MEPS), his vaccinations, his uniform and they will take him to the BX to get his toiletries. He will also learn how to make his bed and how prepare for inspection.
Go on You Tube and search Air Force BMT. It will give you a lot of videos that are what is happening to your son. Let me know if you hear from him again.
Permalink Reply by Angela Williams on July 18, 2012 at 12:33pm THANK YOU for the info! I feel so much better now and I will be looking for the post card. I am so THANKFUL Chase left a little before Slade and that you are willing to share your knowledge with me. It is truly a blessing. The site really gave us an idea of what he is doing. I will let you know as soon as I hear from him and/or get his address.

Permalink Reply by Jeanie Johnson on July 20, 2012 at 9:11am At least now you can write him. I hope you get a phone call this weekend. What I have reading from all the moms that have gone through this experience is when they call, encourage, encourage, encourage. Let me know when you hear from him. I am hopeful that Chase will call this weekend.
