Comment by Melisa Hall on August 30, 2012 at 2:59pm My son called me yesterday with his address, the form you told me me about was so helpful!!! He sounded good, but of course the call was short and sweet. I've already mailed him off a letter. He mentioned letters and some type of pics only, but I didn't understand what he was saying about the pictures.... Anyway, I've already mailed him a letter and working on another one. I have also been checking out the FB page, AF Wingmoms....love it!!!
Melisa, hang in there.. that is so normal.... time will move faster as graduation approaches!
Comment by Melisa Hall on August 27, 2012 at 6:33pm Thank you Jennifer, he did up getting a list and we were able to put it all together. He left this morning and I feel like I'm moving around in a fog. Spent most of the morning crying, now it just seems unreal he's gone.
Melisa,
What you are feeling is totally normal! Your sons recruiter should have given him a list of what he needs to take... don't send anything not on the list! Anything not on the list will be taken and returned at the end of BMT. No care packages allowed during BMT but letters are SO important. You and your daughter should write him as often as possible! Every day is fine!
Hang in there and read the Discussion above about zero week I put some good info in my reply
:-)
Traci - Hello! My daughter just got out of BMT so I'm new to the Air Force assignments being overseas. I do, however, have a son in the Navy overseas. Just trying to figure out if the same rules apply to care packages, etc. Also, trying to figure out what kind of space they have at Ramstein in Germany for personal items. It sounds like your son is well on his way. I do understand how a trip to England might get expensive for the whole family!:)
Melisa - I know the "running out of time" feeling. I'm not sure if I can be of any help as far as what to send with them, but I can be here to listen.:) Stay strong. Thinking about his "next return" sometimes helps. I threw myself into planning care packages and gathering information about where they were going. It made me feel more connected. Maybe you and your daughter could plan and gather info together.:)
Comment by Melisa Hall on August 17, 2012 at 3:32pm Single mom here, 2 kids (boy & girl) and my son is leaving for Lackland a week from Monday. I am an emotional wreck, I will be having a good day and then it hits me and I can't stop the tears. I feel like I am running out of time...what do I need to do to get him ready, anything I need to send him off with? I am doing my best to be strong, crying in the car or shower because I don't want either of my kids to see me. His sister is 16 and she is going to be lost without her big brother around, the two of them are very close. Any advice because I feel like I'm having a breakdown.
Comment by Traci on August 17, 2012 at 11:10am Hello! This week marks my son's first year in the AF, and tomorrow it will be 6 months since he arrived at his first base assignment at Mildenhall in England. Looking back, from my standpoint, BMT was easier to survive than an assignment so far away! It will be, at the earliest, next June before he comes home. And, with 3 more sons at home, a trip to England isn't in the budget!
Any other moms out there in the same situation?
Welcome to all the new Wingmoms!!!!
My son just landed last night in San Antonio, I am going through a range of emotions at this time, just trying to get through it and trying to remember to breath knowing that he will get through this. Any suggestions on Where to stay and what days we should be there for?
