Thanks Joanna. I will try not to worry so much. Thank you for your response. It is appreciated :)
Diane, Don't worry so much. You son will be fine and when you do see him after the 8 weeks of training be prepared to see a different person. They teach the trainees so much in 8 weeks, it is amazing! I have had a son and a daughter go through the Air Force basic training, a son go through the Marines basic training and a daughter go through Army basic training. They all came through with flying colors and are all the better for it. Hang in there sweetie!
My one and only son is in week 0 at BMT. I can't wait until these 8 weeks are over. I have a knot in my stomach all of the time worrying about what is going on. We are very close and he has never really been away from home for more than a day or two. I don't want to leave my home fearing I will miss a phone call. Don't know how I am going to get through the holidays without him let alone 8weeks. I worry about how he is handling this mentally. Do they have any free time at all? I welcome any info anyone can offer. Thanks everyone. A proud and supportive mom.

Welcome the to rollercoaster ride that is BMT. Calls can come anytime anyday but "usually" happen on the weekend and not after 9pm central (lights out at 9) They are at the discretion his TI, so keep the phone close and hang in there!!!!!!!

My son has been in the Air Force for 8 1/2 years. He has lived in many countries and has been deployed to Afghanistan. In all, he has had a wonderful experience. He has had the opportunity to gain leadership skills and confidence that will last him a life time. It is hard to see you kid go off, but we raised them to be strong, independent adults. So, be proud of your son/dauthter's choice to serve our country. It will not be long before they are at their duty station when they can call often and you can visit.
Know that all of the "experienced" Air Force Moms do struggle when our kids are over seas and deployed. But we are proud of their accomplishments.
Your kids, you and your families are always in my prayers.
