National Association of Military Moms and Spouses

I have some news for all you Hampton Roads ladies!

My husband is in the Coast Guard, as some of you know, and I work at
the Exchange on base here in Portsmouth. While I was at work I had told
a guy that works in the MWR office about me joining this site...and I
had also mentioned that I was interested in taking an active part in
the MWR programs. We have a Fall Carnival coming up on October 29th-
and I was going to volunteer to help out. Today he came to me, and
asked me to attend the next meeting----he wants to offer our group an
entire pavilion! I don't know how everyone is about volunteer
work---but this is for our boys <3 It would be us decorating (at
their expense), serving drinks...and they said if we wanted to do a
bake sale or something- we may be able to do that. I am planning to
attend the next meeting, and I was wondering if anyone would like to
join me in volunteering?! I get SO excited about his kind of
thing---things like these that gives our Military men/families good
healthy & affordable things to do...and it brings them all together
:) I feel strongly that our jobs as a military spouse does not stop at
simply supporting our own husband in what he does...we should support
all of our troops! If this went anywhere, we could even have an MWR rep
for each branch, and proudly take on tasks such as these :)

I really hope at least some of you take interest in this, given the
meaning behind the work. If you would like to take part, please message
me!

**This particular event is for the Coast Guard, but if anyone else has any other events for any other branches... we can take those on as well!

I think this is an awesome idea! Im in. Who else is with us?:) I think it would be great even if it is just for the Coast Guard. Hey you never know Coast Guard this month another branch next. Lets work together for all branchs of the Military and support each other. :)
I agree. It sounds like a great idea!!
I will get all the info for this event and post it for everyone. Thank you so much ladies for your interest! Glad to see that there are some dedicated Military spouses out there! :)

Some think that their job stops at pining for their hubby while he is away. I think that it's obviously important to support him, and be there for him...but there are ways that we can show our appreciation for what our boys are doing. Thanks again ladies!
Count me in Mrs. Miller. :]
Thank ya ma'am :)
Like I said- I will get all the info in to everyone for the Fall Festival. I work Wed, so I'll try to find out when the next MWR meeting is. After getting all the info- I'd like to set up a get-together for those that are getting involved...a "meet & greet" for those of us that haven't met yet, and a chance to go over the details, brainstorm ideas, etc.

ALSO- start brainstorming now ladies, because we're gonna need a group name! (Not branch-specific, just a military affiliated name). We'll also need to make sure that each Branch is covered- appoint ladies to keep in contact with different offices so we keep on top of the events that are going on! I plan to make Group handouts for each branch to have for MWR offices (is that what the other branches call it as well?). We need to be able to advertise what we're willing to do, and that we're eager to help out!! :)

I can't put into words how excited I am about this girls- it's little things like this that can start making such a big difference :) Thank you all SO much :)
As far as a meet and greet goes, I'd love to go to one, my work schedule is about to get a little crazy, but currently Saturdays are my guaranteed day off, at least through the 25th. Andddd my truck's getting fixed today *hopefully* so I'll have that then. *fingers crossed nothing else goes out soon*
Sounds good :) Hope everything works out for you!! I'll get the info to everyone asap!

I'm interested as well, Mrs. Miller :)

I know the Navy calls it the MWR too... and I meant to tell you this on the way to the monkey today, but Joe is actually the Vice President of an MWR branch. .. (if you're thinking what I think you're thinking... I know, right?!) :)
So, I'll make sure he keeps me updated on events and such too, even if it means just grabbing a calender and bringing it home for me :)
