Welcome! We will work to promote awareness and support amongst military families in enhancing the quality of life for their children and themselves.
My daughter has a Specific Learning Disability in the area of reading and reading comprehension, with a frontal processing disorder which made reading, writing reports and doing schoolwork in general difficult at best. So I went back to school, finished my degree in Special Education, specifically Learning Disabilities and I am a High School Teacher in an Autistic Spectrum Disorders Classroom. I am furthering my education by now seeking my Masters in Special Education with an emphasis in Autism Specturm Disorders.
I have played both the role of the parent and the teacher at IEP/MET meetings and I understand the frustration of being that parent who no one listens to or gets talked to in "teacher lingo"! So as an educator I am compassionate in my approach towards my families, as well as my students focusing on the "Cans" rather than the "Can nots". I also am the mother of a military son, and understand the strains of military life.
My hope with this group is to foster a dialog for all of the Military moms who are either seeking information, or just want to talk with other moms to help them through the maze of Special Education. Enjoy!

Comment by Marti Knoll on April 12, 2011 at 11:52am Hi Natasha! I am glad you have joined our little group! I am currently an ASD Teacher, and have found myself learning new things everyday about the mysteries of Autism. While I have not had a student in my case load with Prader Willi, I am aware of the syndrome and the issues you will or have already faced with food and nutrition. I am excited to learn more about you and feel free to share with us all about your special angels!
Peace,
Marti

Comment by Marti Knoll on January 22, 2011 at 12:28am Fellow Air Force Mom Kathy Baily sent this to our group to help a child with separation anxiety over the father's deployment. Thanks Kathy for this awesome resource!
Was there a mom on here with either a son or grandsons and their dad is getting deployed? I found a really cool site https://www.daddydolls.com/
and wanted to share. And what's even better, these dolls are Made in the USA! I can't tell you as a small business owner how hard it is, if not impossible in some pet toy categories to actually find "Made in USA".
