"That sounds right, Lynette. From what I've been learning, if you are in DEP and enlist for 6 years, you will be A1C after 20 weeks of Tech School, or after graduating from Tech School (whichever comes first). You remain an Airman until…"
"Welcome Jackie! My son, Ian, left for USAF BMT 2 days ago. This site, as well as others, has been an absolute Godsend!! The only ones that can understand the emotional rollarcoaster that we are on are those that have been there or are currently…"
"Thank you so much for the advice, Carol! Ian was sworn in this morning and should be at Lackland by now. It makes me feel better that he is there now. It was the waiting and the processing while he was still here that really got to me. He just seems…"
"Beth, Keep busy. I am active with my chpater of Blue Star Mothers of Ameria..great support group! Send your son lots of phone cards,
so he can always call you. Lots of my friends are hooked up with Skype. Great if you can…"
"Thank you so much, Karen. I know that my son is ready and excited, which makes it easier for me. I will definitely keep my phone handy at all times! Thanks for the advice. I am concerned about his younger brother (15 years) as they are very close…"
"It's all just hitting me now. We had a huge going away dinner for him with many of his close relatives attending yesterday, and he swears in and leaves for BMT tomorrow morning. I'm having a really hard time concentrating on anything."
"My son swears in at MEPS tomorrow morning and will then be on his way to BMT. I'm already missing him horribly and he hasn't even left yet. I don't know how I'll feel when he is deployed, especially if it is to the Middle East.…"
"I don't remember where I heard this but I was told that BMT is harder for the moms than it is for the soldiers! I can bet he is doing fine. My son leaves for BMT in 11 days and I find myself getting more and more teary & emotional every day…"
Beth, Keep busy. I am active with my chpater of Blue Star Mothers of Ameria..great support group! Send your son lots of phone cards,
so he can always call you. Lots of my friends are hooked up with Skype. Great if you can coordinate the timing. My son won't use this..long story. Lastly, get your son to sign a durable power of attorney naming you as the one who can take care of his business. They may do this during basic now, but did not 8 years ago. This has been helpful since Matt has been out of the country for 2 1/2 years. Most importantly, stay connected with other AF moms. We have all gone through what you are going through now.
