This must be a difficult time for you and your son's wife. I don't know if it gets easier but time changes all things. We are fortunate that our son has been able to have frequent contact with us. Sometimes I think it is harder when I hear from him then when I don't but I am grateful he can call and send messages. My son just turned 19 in March and has been gone to Oklahoma since May 8. We did get to make a trip to see him at basic graduation and that was wonderful although extremely hot. It has been hard for his dad and his one sister having him gone. I had a difficult time when he came to me and told this is what he wanted. I cried for two days and then decided this wasn't going to help anyone so while I couldn't give him my blessings (as he asked) I said I am here for you always. So onward we went. Much family(including extended) upset over the decision. But he had attempted college which he hated to appease me and so off he went. He actually is doing really well and he is very happy so I am happy. He has goals for the first time and I really in my heart know this is what he has wanted since he was very little. It is hard because he is our only son and the youngest.
Anyway, I would love to be a sounding board and I will lend any assistance I can. Please stay in touch.
P.S. I have two grandsons age 2 and 3 and they keep me going as well.
My son is stationed in Fort Carson, Colorado, he is 19. So far we don't think he will be deployed anytime soon. The unit that he was assigned too just got back from a year in Iraq. I just pray that things don't change we know anything can change in the Army.I miss him so much I didn't think it would be this bad. I know what you mean your so very proud of them but wonder if it will ever get easier with out them close.
He has been gone since July 25 and haven't heard from him? Has is wife heard from him at all? Joshua will miss the birth of his first baby then. Where in Ohio do you live? I live in Champion which is near Youngstown. I hope to get to know you I need someone who understands that being an Army Mom is both emotional and rewarding. So I am here for you to talk to anytime. Us Army Moms have to stick together.
