Operation Box of Love: Harness the Power of Extended Family to Keep Morale In Check

We were only 2 weeks into my husband's deployment. The kids and I happily went to Target and my 3 year old dutifully kept me on task by reminding me we were there to shop for daddy. It was time to send him his first "box of love." I asked her what she thought he needed. She said vaseline for his ashiness. I thought that was funny. And toothpaste and Q-tips. I thought that was sweet. "Oh, Mommy!", she exclaimed. "Don't forget a pink purse." I think I had to draw the line there.

Are You Going Through The Motions?

Matthew West is on of my favorite artists. On May 17, 2007 he underwent very serious vocal surgery in which he had to go through a long period of uncertainty, dissatisfaction, fear, doubt and most painful of all....silence. Absolutely no talking.

To his wife. To his baby girl. To his friends.

As little sound as possible coming from his vocal cords.

Miraculously he completely recovered from this operation and from it learned some valuable lessons that we… Continue

Stressed? Maybe You Need A Disney Day...

Volunteer for a Day, Get a Day at a Disney Park to Celebrate

Here's a great way to destress and help your community at the same time. Disney Parks hopes to inspire families to volunteer in their communities during 2010 through “Give a Day. Get a Disney Day,” a first-of-its-kind program which celebrates community service by giving a free one-day admission ticket to a Walt Disney World or Disneyland theme park to 1 million people who perform volunteer service for a participating… Continue

"Oh NAMMAS How Do I Love Thee...Hmm Maybe I Should Get a Badge!"

A badge is a cool way to show your membership to a fabulous group. It's how political parties, fraternities, sororities, churches, clubs, families, high schools, colleges, hobbyists, and anyone else whom you can think of that associate together show their "love" for the group. A badge would be the same as wearing a t-shirt, displaying a bumper sticker, wearing specific colors or even sharing the same name. Since we're an online community we "wear" or display badges.

So how can you display…

Funny for the Week: FAIL Photo

I found a funny site that showcases what they call "FAIL Pictures". Here's one of the best reasons you MUST encourage, promote and ensure your kids stay in school. At least through the eighth grade...:O)

Great find!

I'm thrilled to be a part of this community! I can't wrap my mind around Twitter (not yet, anyway), but I am an avid blogger and also the DC Military Families Examiner for Examiner.com.

Increase Your Own Network When You Make A Group!

Now that you're here in the Association and have experienced a little of the network, you might have some questions. For instance, who else is here from my base? Anyone else have teenagers? Who has kids starting school for the first time? I wonder if there are other Army/Air Force/Navy/Marine women here who are trying to start a business?

In addition to scouring the network as a whole, you can now create your own individual groups right inside the Association! That's the beauty of… Continue

National Author/Speaker Partners with NAMMAS To Hear Your Deployment Story

It's a sad fact that the divorce rate in America is extremely high with at least half of all marriages failing. The military divorce rate is no better, and the strain that deployments and separations put on a marriage make it especially difficult to keep a happy home.

That's why bestselling author (over 1 million books sold) Margaret Hardisty and Dr. Vance Hardisty are working with the National Association of Military Moms and Spouses, and other organizations to collect stories of… Continue

Guilty pleasure...

I guess my latest guilty pleasure is playing "Farm Town" on Facebook. There are a million and a half other things that are far more productive than this time waster! But, it is just fun and yes I COULD live without it.

Question of the Week, 5 October

I am so proud to be a member of NAMMS! Your profiles are a beginning way to get to know you, but we're all curious to know more.

Help us get to know who ladies all over the military are networking with and answer this:

What is your favorite guilty pleasure?

I'll go first. Mine is watching America's Next Top Model after the kids go to bed while eating popcorn and peanut butter on a spoon.

Oooooooo...tasty!

Having Fun With My Favorite Travel Buddy

Happy Thursday Ladies! How was your weekend? Mine was nothing less than exciting. Have you ever traveled Space-A? Then you know exactly what I mean! My 3-yr old and I hopped all the way across the country, starting Saturday morning and ending Sunday evening. I call it "exciting" because that's what I decided it would be. Nothing, and I mean NOTHING, worked out the way I planned, but it worked the way it was supposed to. I'm convinced my… Continue

Great Resource for Space-A Travelers

Hi Everybody, I wanted to share some info I found at military.com. Having just completed Space-A travel (see my previous post) I figure the information provided here would benefit some of you who may consider Space-A one day. When it works, it REALLY works! We saved literal thousands with Space-A. But when it doesn't...well you incur more unexpected expenses than planned for.

Be prepared and know what to expect. Check it out here:… Continue
