Tips To Survive Your First Deployment

The primary occupational hazard of military life is deployment. In our current state of affairs, if a soldier is in the military long enough, s/he will get deployed. Depending on the job your soldier has, those deployments can start to rack up. But how do you get through that first one?

When you’re new to the military, there are LOTS of unknowns. You don’t know how the…

Newbie from Oklahoma

I just wanted to take the time to introduce myself. I am an army wife and my husband is currently deployed.  I work from home; for an online school for military spouses.  Our school has been around 40+ years and many spouses qualify to attend online courses; at their own pace free. It's a fantastic way to stay busy during deployments or while your spouse works; and it's amazing to further your education for your own independence and happiness! I feel good helping other spouses! For…

Life's a Climb

Well, the past few weeks have been anything but ordinary that's for sure. I'm getting out there and meeting other moms (I moved back home for deployment and for work purposes) and I'm very glad to be back home and in the comforts of where I live. I am getting my real estate off the ground by already listing and selling homes, and I love my job. I've been busy with volunteering for Kiwanis and hopefully going to be getting involved with other clubs as well. I love giving back to my community…

Itching to Get Started

I suppose this is something that I learned or picked up as a child. My Dad was in the military and although we only moved a handful of times I loved the excitement of knowing we were moving to a new place. That move could have been half a year away but just knowing would get me all antsy and ready to get there.

Wahoo! What a ride!

It's been almost 4 weeks since my website is up: www.militarydutystations, my husband returned from deployment, we got PCS orders.

What have I learned?

First of all I found it absolutely astonishing that ALL came at once. It is truly strange.

The website:

I found that after 15 years of being out of the 'business world' I am much more naive than I was when I was still working. I attribute this to the fact that back then I… Continue

Operation Box of Love: Harness the Power of Extended Family to Keep Morale In Check

We were only 2 weeks into my husband's deployment. The kids and I happily went to Target and my 3 year old dutifully kept me on task by reminding me we were there to shop for daddy. It was time to send him his first "box of love." I asked her what she thought he needed. She said vaseline for his ashiness. I thought that was funny. And toothpaste and Q-tips. I thought that was sweet. "Oh, Mommy!", she exclaimed. "Don't forget a pink purse." I think I had to draw the line there.

National Author/Speaker Partners with NAMMAS To Hear Your Deployment Story

It's a sad fact that the divorce rate in America is extremely high with at least half of all marriages failing. The military divorce rate is no better, and the strain that deployments and separations put on a marriage make it especially difficult to keep a happy home.

That's why bestselling author (over 1 million books sold) Margaret Hardisty and Dr. Vance Hardisty are working with the National Association of Military Moms and Spouses, and other organizations to collect stories of… Continue
