Overseas Calling That Won't Break Your Piggy Bank!!!

I have wondered about this as well. When my son was in the desert, he called me, but he also called my daughter in law everyday. How, and not go bankrupt? Vonage! I have it on good authority( two military wives who still use the service) that you can get plans as low as 9.99 to 24.99! This saved my son and his wife thousands and thousands of dollars while he was deployed! Now that my son is going to England in August, I am definately going to invest the 10 bucks a month in a phone that connects to my computer for phone calls, as an international plan through my cell phone company is alot more than that!

My daughter in law said it was the best thing she ever did! She didnt have a home phone, just their cell phones, and skype is like you said being chained to the computer. When my son was deployed to the big bad sandbox, she had a baby at home and she herself is active military, so with Vonage she could use with a phone connected to her laptop that she could put in her pocket and walk around with the hands free headset on, allowing her to do other things (like take care of the baby!) when he called. then it was 24.99 a month which was still cheap as he called her everyday! But now their prices have dropped a bit, so definately worth the price. My son and daughter in law are leaving in August to Lakenheath UK for four years, and I know that is what I am going to do!!!!!
