We have a year left here in Japan and I am already started to feel the pressure. Because I am a planner and a self proclaimed professional organizer I feel the need to know where we are going next. But instead we are only being told where we are not going. One of those places that we are not going is Japan and that is unfortunate.
Japan has been by far the best duty station. The schools are great, housing is excellent, and my 4th child was born it. Three years in Japan is just not long enough. Of course, my teen is anxious to get back to the states because she wants to drive, visit colleges, see her old friends….the list goes on.
But what my teen fails to realize is that America, as beautiful as it is, is not as safe a place to live. Her nighttime walks from the movies with her friends, going to the park farthest from our house, and all of the freedoms she enjoys here will go away once we return to the states.
I wish I could convince both my husband’s detailer and my teenager that staying in Japan is the best thing for everyone involved.
