Tracy, My son left Nov. 8th and is now in his WOT 5. I think the hardest part is when you wait at home all weekend for a call and then they don't get to call. I get so depressed it will take a few days to get over it. I write him every day and just tell what's going on and give him a joke a day. Then I mail it every 2 or 3 days just so he has a steady flow of letters coming in. He has written that he likes hearing what is going on it makes him feel not so alone. We are on the count down with 25 days to go. Can't wait for the Airmen's run, coin ceremony, and then graduation. He will have grown so much in such a short time! Go Mustangs 323/070!
For me, one of the most emotional moments was when I first saw my son run by in the airmens run.It wasn't easy to spot him, they are moving fast and they all have shaved heads ect.He spotted me at the same time I spotted him, it was proudest, happiest most exciting moment ever. He couldn't stop or even turn his head but he knew I was there and I knew it wouldn't much longer at that moment.Your son will be getting more and more time to call you in the coming weeks, almost always on Sundays.Stay strong ,you will be standing along side of that very same road in just a few more weeks.Best wishes to you and your son.
Here is the link to AF WingMoms. I don't know what I would have done without this site! You will need a Facebook page. When you go to this page, click on " start here",and then read all the information under QL 1 and QL2. It will give you all the information you need. Also, what TRS/FLT is your son in? You can click more on the links and find your sons flight. Ask to join the group so you can connect with other moms anfamilies that have sons in the same flight. Our group was so close. We met in a big group to cheer on our flight, and shared a lot of stories with each other. We also started posting when the calls started coming in so everyone would know to be ready. Its an amazing site. If you have any questions I don't mind at all. I know exactly what you are going through! Hang in there! And ((( hugs)))) to you on you BMT journey! http://www.facebook.com/AFWingMoms?ref=ts
The Airman's run is on Thursday morning at 9am. It is the first time you see your son. They will all be together with their flight and they run by as you are standing on the sides of the road holding your banner and cheering them on. Then, there is the coin ceremony. This is where they receive their Airman's coin dressed in their blues. After the coin ceremony, they must stand at attention until someone "taps them out". Tapping out means a family member finds them and taps them on the shoulder and gives them a hug. Then they can leave formation. It is the greatest feeling to hug them after a very long and emotional 8.5 weeks! I can send you some links to things that will help you so much if you would like.
